Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets bear persisted as the Domestic Composite Index (DCI), Domestic Financial Sector Index (DFSI) and the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) all returned losses today while the FCI made a marginal recovery. Market capitalisation dropped further with price gains made in three stocks and only one price decrease recorded in the listed tradeable securities of the day.

The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) lost by 0.00 points or 0.01 percent to close 10,580.33 points from its previous close of 10,579.68 points recorded in the previous session.

Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was also down after the days trading closing at 792.78 losing 0.01 points from its previous close of 792.77 points, a change of 0.02 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).

The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) traded up to close 1,562.91 points after the days trading closing 0.00 percent or 0.01 point up marginally from its previous close of 1562.90 points.

The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, decreased by 0.24 percent after the days trading to close on 1226.11 points down 2.99 points from the 1229.10 points previously recorded.

The market capitalisation settled at BWP 418,826.54 million with the Domestic Equity BWP accounting for BWP 50,154.20 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 368,672.44 million.

From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 11,537,604 shares traded which were exchanged from the 11,461 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 60,116,841.12 million.

Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were Turnstar with 4,562,000, FNBB recording volumes of 3,606,208, Letshego recording volume figures of 1,759,451 followed by Sefalana with 1,003,882.

In terms of price gainers and price losers there were two price gainers and one price loser today leaving market breadth positive, Barclays was up 1 point to close at BWP 436 per share and Sefalana was up 55 point to close at BWP 1355 per share.

The price loser was BIHL down 1 point to close at BWP 1477 per share.
